Error: Missing Google Sheets Connector Scopes

Error: Missing Google Sheets Connector Scopes

Info
When building or refreshing data from a Google Sheets data source in Power My Analytics, you may encounter an error message stating "Missing Google Sheets Connector Scopes." This means the Google account you connected as your Google Sheets data source is missing the permission Power My Analytics needs to read your spreadsheet data. This guide explains the cause and walks you through reconnecting with the correct permission.

Error

"Missing Google Sheets Connector Scopes"

  • Affected Data Source: Google Sheets (data source connector)
  • Affected Component: Sources > Google Sheets, plus any Data Builder dataset or report built from a Google Sheets data source
  • Occurs: When connecting, syncing, or building data from a Google Sheets data source whose Google account did not grant the required spreadsheet permission

Cause

This error occurs when the Google account connected as your Google Sheets data source is missing the spreadsheet permission (scope) that Power My Analytics needs to read your data. It usually happens when the account was first connected without granting the "See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets" permission, or when that permission was later removed or expired.

Notes
The Google Sheets data source connector is not the same as Google Sheets as a reporting destination. The data source connector (added under Sources) imports data from your spreadsheets into Power My Analytics so you can use it in Data Builder or send it to other destinations. The reporting destination (found under Reports > Google Sheets) does the opposite: it pushes your Power My Analytics data into a spreadsheet using the Spreadsheets add-on sidebar. This error applies to the Google Sheets data source connector only.

Solution

To resolve this error, disconnect and reconnect your Google Sheets data source, granting the spreadsheet permission Power My Analytics needs when Google's permissions screen appears.

1. Disconnect your Google Sheets data source

Notes
Disconnecting and reconnecting a source will not impact any existing reports in Power My Analytics.
  • Navigate to your Power My Analytics hub.
  • Click Sources in the left navigation panel.
  • Locate the Google Sheets data source you want to reconnect, click the three-dots action menu, and select Remove source.
  • Confirm the disconnection when prompted.

2. Reconnect to Google Sheets with the correct permission

  1. In your hub, click Sources in the left navigation panel, then click + Add new source.
  2. Select Google Sheets from the available data sources.
  3. Choose the Google account that owns the spreadsheets you want to connect.

  4. On Google's permissions screen, grant the following permission to Power My Analytics, then click Allow:
    • See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets

  5. Enter the URL of each Google Sheets spreadsheet you want to connect, then click Continue.

3. Verify the connection

  • After authorizing with the correct permission, your Google Sheets data source will sync. Reload your report or Data Builder dataset to confirm the error is resolved.
Notes
Power My Analytics requests this permission only to read and import data from the spreadsheets you connect. It will never edit, create, or delete your spreadsheets without your specific approval.
