Apple Search Ads Data Connector User Guide

Apple Search Ads is a powerful advertising platform that allows app developers and marketers to promote their iOS apps directly within the App Store search results. This guide will walk you through setting up and using the Apple Search Ads data connector in Power My Analytics, enabling you to automate your reporting and gain valuable insights into your app promotion campaigns.


Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  1. An active Apple Search Ads account
  2. Account Read Only and Account Admin permissions for your Apple Search Ads account

Adding Apple Search Ads as a Data Source

  1. Navigate to your Power My Analytics Hub and select Sources from the menu.
  2. Click + New Data Source and choose Apple Search Ads from the gallery.
  3. Click the copy icon to copy PMA's public key.
  4. Go to Apple Search Ads and sign in to your account.
  5. Click on your account name in the upper right corner and click on Settings in the menu.
  6. In the Client Credentials, paste PMA's public key into the Public Key field.
  7. Copy the clientId, teamId and keyId. Click Save.
  8. Go back to PMA and enter your clientId, teamId and keyId. Click Connect to authenticate.

Creating a Looker Studio Report

Follow these steps to create a Looker Studio report using your Apple Search Ads data:
  1. After adding Apple Search Ads as a data source, navigate to Reports > Looker Studio in your PMA hub
  2. Select Apple Search Ads under Create Looker Studio Report (this will open the official Looker Studio application in a new window)
  3. Google Looker Studio Configuration:
    1. Step 1:
      1. Name your data source (e.g., "Apple Search Ads - Organization Name")
      2. Choose your Power My Analytics hub from the dropdown
      3. Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked for the PMA demo template
      4. Click Next
    2. Step 2:
      1. User Account: Select your Apple Search Ads account for real data or "Sample Account" for sample data
      2. Click Next
    3. Step 3:
      1. Choose "Account" for reports
      2. Optional: Allow "Account" modification in reports
      3. Click Connect (top right) to complete the configuration
    4. Step 4:
      1. Click Create Report (top right)

Apple Search Ads data in Power My Analytics offers a wide range of metrics and dimensions. Here are some popular metrics you can use in your reports:
  • Campaign Performance Metrics: Campaign Name, Status, Impressions, TTR, Taps, CR, Installs, Spend, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA
  • Ad Group Performance Metrics: Ad Group Name, Status, Impressions, TTR, Taps, CR, Installs, Spend, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA
  • Ad Performance Metrics: Ad Name, Status, Creative Type, Impressions, TTR, Taps, Installs, CR, Spend, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA
  • Keyword Performance Metrics: Keyword, Status, Impressions, TTR, Taps, CR, Installs, Spend, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA
  • Daily Performance Metrics: Date, Impressions, TTR, Taps, CR, Installs, Spend, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA, New Downloads, Redownloads
  • Day of Week Metrics: Day of Week, Spend TTR, CR, Avg CPM, Avg CPT, Avg CPA, Impressions, Installs

Limitations and Important Considerations

  1. Backfilling: Limited to 2 years, with an initial backfill of 13 months when you first connect your Apple Search Ads account.
