Error: Missing BigQuery Scopes
When setting up or running BigQuery exports in Power My Analytics, you may see an error message stating “Missing BigQuery Scopes.” This means the Google account you use as your BigQuery destination is missing the permissions Power My Analytics needs to write your data. This guide explains the cause and walks you through reconnecting with the correct permissions.
Error
“Missing BigQuery Scopes”
- Affected Data Destination: BigQuery exports
- Affected Component: Exports > BigQuery > Create Export (or Edit Export) > Destination
- Occurs: When selecting or using a Google account as a BigQuery destination
Cause
This error occurs when the Google account connected as your BigQuery destination is missing the BigQuery permissions (scopes) that Power My Analytics needs to write your data. It usually happens when the account was first connected without granting both BigQuery permissions, or when those permissions were later removed or expired.
BigQuery is a destination, not a data source. You will not find a BigQuery account under Sources to reconnect. You reauthorize your Google account directly in the export configuration, using the steps below.
Solution
To resolve this error, reconnect your Google account from the export configuration screen. This prompts Google to grant the BigQuery permissions Power My Analytics needs.
- In your hub, go to Exports > BigQuery.
- Click + Create Export, or click the pencil (Edit Export) icon on the export showing the error.

- In the Configure the Export window, under Destination, click the blue + button next to Google BigQuery.

- Sign in to (or select) the Google account associated with your BigQuery dataset.

When Google’s permissions screen appears, grant both of the following permissions to Power My Analytics, then continue:
- Insert data into Google BigQuery
- View and manage your data in Google BigQuery and see the email address for your Google Account

Power My Analytics will never edit, create, or delete anything in your BigQuery destination dataset or Google account without your specific approval. Google does not provide a read-only option for these permissions.
Once reconnected, select your Destination, finish configuring the export, and click Update (or Add). Your BigQuery export will now run with the correct permissions.
