Connecting your Mixpanel account to Power My Analytics allows you to centralize your product analytics data for more efficient reporting and analysis. This guide will walk you through creating a Mixpanel Service Account, finding your Project ID, and connecting your Mixpanel account to PMA.
Requirements
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- An active Mixpanel account with at least one project
- Access to create a Service Account in your Mixpanel organization (Organization Settings)
- Access to your Mixpanel Project Settings
Step 1: Create a Mixpanel Service Account
Power My Analytics connects to Mixpanel using a Service Account (a set of credentials Mixpanel creates for tools like PMA).
- Log in to your Mixpanel account.
- Go to Organization Settings > Service Accounts.
- Create a new Service Account (or open an existing one).
- Copy the Service Account Username and Service Account Secret so they are ready to paste into Power My Analytics.
The Service Account Secret is displayed only once, when the Service Account is created. Copy it immediately and keep it somewhere safe. If you lose it, create a new Service Account in Mixpanel.
Step 2: Find Your Project ID
- In Mixpanel, open Project Settings.
- Locate your Project ID and copy it. A Mixpanel organization can contain several projects, so be sure to choose the project you want to report on.
Step 3: Connect Mixpanel to Power My Analytics
- Go to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com and click on Sources in the left sidebar.
- Click the + Add new source button.
- Find and select Mixpanel from the data source gallery.
- Enter your Service Account Username, Service Account Secret, and Project ID.
- Click Connect to authenticate.
- You should see the "Source was successfully added" confirmation message.
Your Mixpanel account is now connected to Power My Analytics, and PMA will begin collecting your historical data automatically.
Remove Your Mixpanel Data Source from PMA
If you would like to disconnect your Mixpanel account from Power My Analytics:
- Go to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com and click on Sources in the left sidebar.
- Find your Mixpanel account in the list of connected sources. Click the three dots to open the Action menu.
- Click Remove source.
- Click Confirm to remove the Mixpanel data source from PMA.
You can also delete the Service Account in Mixpanel (Organization Settings > Service Accounts) to fully revoke PMA's access.
