How to Use a Multi-Source Report Template in Looker Studio

Are you a Looker Studio template user looking to streamline your reporting process? Look no further! In this article, we'll cover how to use a multi-source report template in Looker Studio. We'll walk through the steps of selecting data sources, naming them properly, and making a copy of the template to suit your needs. Whether you're a beginner or just looking to save time, we've got you covered.

Choosing Your Data Sources

Before you get started, make a list of the data sources you'll need for the multi-source report you want to use. PMA offers several multi-source report templates for marketing, advertising, SEO, and more. It's best to set up these data sources before you copy the report template, so check the page for the template to see which data sources it uses.

Best Practices for Naming Your Data Sources

When creating your copy of a multi-source report template, you'll be asked to select a data source for each of the connectors it uses. If you have more than one account with the same name for one of these connectors, it can be difficult to tell them apart when selecting a source.

We recommend that you give each data source a unique name that includes the connector, name of the client, and an account number, such as Facebook Insights - MyWebStore - 2. You can choose a name for your data source when you first connect.

1. Start in your hub and select Sources

2. Click the + New Data Source button.

3. Click on the connector for your new account and authorize your account.

4. Once your account is connected, click Data Studio under "Create a Report".

5. In Reports > Data Studio, under "Create Data Studio Report", select your connector.

6. When setting up your data source, click on the title "Untitled Data Source" next to the Looker Studio logo. Enter a unique name for this data source.

7. Finish setting up your data source and click Connect, then Create Report.

Your data source is created with its new name. Repeat this for each of the data sources in the report template you'd like to use, making note of the name of each account.

Copy the Multi-Source Report Template

Once your data sources are set up, you're ready to make a copy of the report template.

1. Find the multi-source report template you'd like to use and open the template. Click on More options in the upper right corner and select Make a copy.

2. Click on each of the data sources in the New Data Source column and select your data source.

3. When you've finished choosing each of your data sources, click the Copy Report button. If you haven't set up one or more data sources, you'll be prompted to connect them when you copy the report template.

Customize Your Template
