Outbrain Data Connector User Guide

Outbrain is a powerful native advertising platform that helps marketers reach new audiences and drive engagement through sponsored content recommendations. This guide will walk you through the process of connecting Outbrain to Power My Analytics, creating reports, and understanding key metrics and considerations.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Outbrain to Power My Analytics, ensure you have:
  1. An active Outbrain account with Amplify API access. You can request API access at https://lp.outbrain.com/partner-api-form/
  2. Your Amplify API Token
To generate an API token and obtain API access in Outbrain Amplify API:
  1. Go to Generate Amplify Api Token and enter your password.
  2. Click Generate.

     

Adding Outbrain as a Data Source

  1. Log in to your Power My Analytics hub.
  2. Navigate to Sources in the main menu.
  3. Click + New Data Source.
  4. Select Outbrain from the gallery of available sources.
  5. Sign in to your Outbrain account when prompted.
  6. Enter your Amplify API Token to authenticate the connection.

Creating a Looker Studio Report

Follow these steps to create a Looker Studio report using your Outbrain data:
  1. In the PMA hub, go to Reports > Looker Studio
  2. Select Outbrain under Create Looker Studio Report (this will open the official Looker Studio application in a new window)
  3. Google Looker Studio Configuration:
    1. Step 1:
      1. Name your data source (e.g., "Outbrain - Your Organization")
      2. Select your Power My Analytics hub from the dropdown
      3. Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked to use the PMA demo template
      4. Click Next
    2. Step 2:
      1. User Account: Choose your Outbrain account (for real data) or "Sample Account" (for sample data)
      2. Click Next
    3. Step 3:
      1. Choose “Marketers”, “Report conversion metrics by” and “Currency symbol” for reports
      2. Optional: Allow “Marketers”, “Report conversion metrics by” modification in reports
      3. Click Connect in the top right to complete the configuration
    4. Step 4:
      1. Click Create Report in the top right

Key Reports and Fields

Outbrain offers a wide range of metrics to analyze your campaign performance. Some popular metrics include:
  • Performance Metrics: Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Cost, Conversions, Conversion Rate, Spend
  • Campaign and Publisher Metrics: Spend, CPC, Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Click Conv., Conv. Rate, Click Conv. Value, Conversions, View-Through Conv., CPA, Conv. Value - Click, Total Conversions
  • Content Metrics: Spend, CPC, Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Click Conv., Conv. Rate, Click Conv. Value, Conversions, View-Through Conv., CPA

Limitations and Important Considerations

  1. Backfilling: Outbrain data can be backfilled for up to 2 years. When you first connect your account, PMA will automatically backfill 13 months of historical data.
  2. Data delay: Outbrain data may be delayed by up to 24 hours.
  3. Live request limit: Outbrain's API has a limit of 10 live requests per minute. If you exceed this limit, such as when first connecting or requesting a long date range, you may receive the error “Number of Reports request for Marketer exceeded rate limit”. Wait one minute and then refresh your data.



  4. Promoted Link URL size limit: When using the Promoted Link URL field, ensure the promoted content size is less than 700K to avoid report loading errors.
