Taboola Data Connector User Guide

Taboola is a powerful native advertising platform that helps marketers reach their target audience through sponsored content and product recommendations. This guide will walk you through the process of connecting your Taboola account to Power My Analytics, enabling you to automate your data collection and create insightful reports. By following these steps, you'll be able to streamline your reporting process and gain valuable insights into your Taboola campaigns.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
  1. Your Taboola account ID (found at the end of the URL in Taboola Backstage)
  2. Your Taboola account password

Find Your Taboola Account ID

To find your account ID, go to Taboola Backstage and find the number at the end of the page URL, for example, https://backstage.taboola.com/backstage/123456.

Adding Taboola as a Data Source

  1. Log in to your Power My Analytics hub.
  2. Navigate to the Sources section in the main menu.
  3. Click on + New Data Source.
  4. Select Taboola from the list of available data sources.
  5. Enter your Taboola account ID in the Client ID field.
  6. Enter your Taboola account password in the Client Secret field.
  7. Click Connect to establish the connection.

Creating a Looker Studio Report

Follow these steps to create a Looker Studio report using your Taboola data:
  1. After adding Taboola as a data source, go to Reports > Looker Studio in your PMA hub
  2. Select Taboola under Create Looker Studio Report (this will open the official Looker Studio application in a new window)
  3. Google Looker Studio Configuration:
    1. Step 1:
      1. Name your data source (e.g., "Taboola - Your Organization Name")
      2. Choose your Power My Analytics hub from the dropdown menu
      3. Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked to use the PMA demo template
      4. Click Next
    2. Step 2:
      1. User Account: Select your Taboola account (for real data) or "Sample Account" (for sample data)
      2. Click Next
    3. Step 3:
      1. Choose "Accounts" for reports
      2. Optional: Allow "Accounts" modification in reports
      3. Click Connect in the top right to complete the data source configuration
    4. Step 4:
      1. Click Create Report in the top right
      2. Include "today" in your report's date range to begin historical data storage

Key Reports and Fields

Taboola data in Power My Analytics offers a wide range of metrics and dimensions for your reports. Some popular metrics include:
  • Campaign Metrics: Spent, actual CPC, impressions, clicks, STR, click conv., conversion rate, conversions value - all, conversions and CPA by campaign
  • Geo Metrics: Spent, impressions, clicks, CTR, conversions and CPA by country
  • Sites Performance Metrics: Spent, actual CPC, impressions, clicks, CTR, click conversions and CPA by site name
  • Platform Metrics: Spent, actual CPC, impressions, clicks, CTR, click conversions, click conversion rate and CPA by platform
  • Campaign Top Content Metrics: Impressions, vCTR, clicks, CPC, vCPM, conv. rate, conv., CPA and spent by ID, image, top item, URL and campaign name

Limitations and Important Considerations

  1. Backfilling: Power My Analytics can backfill up to 2 years of historical data from Taboola. When you first connect your Taboola account, an initial backfill of 13 months of data will be performed.
  2. Reporting by country and date: Country and date cannot be used as dimensions simultaneously.
