Why Reconnect Doesn't Fix a Disconnected PMA MCP Connector (and What to Do Instead)

Info
If your AI assistant shows the Power My Analytics connector as disconnected, and clicking Reconnect says it worked but the connector still won't respond, this article explains why and gets you back up and running in a couple of minutes. The short version: remove the connector completely and add it back.

Symptom

The Power My Analytics MCP connector was set up and working, but now your AI assistant (Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, or ChatGPT) shows it as disconnected or in a failed state. When you click Reconnect, it may re-run the sign-in and even confirm that you're reconnected, but the connector still can't open a session or return any of your Hub data.

Affects: Every browser-based AI client that connects to the PMA MCP server through the sign-in flow. Headless / server-to-server integrations that use an API token are not affected.

Why Reconnect Doesn't Work

When you first add the connector, your AI assistant registers itself with the PMA MCP server. That registration is valid for 24 hours, and because PMA doesn't issue refresh tokens, it can't renew itself. Once it ages out, it can't recover on its own.

Reconnect reuses that same expired registration. That's why it can look successful and still not work. Removing the connector throws the old registration away, and adding it back creates a fresh one.
Notes
Two different lifetimes, easy to mix up: your PMA sign-in (the access token) lasts 1 year, while your AI assistant's registration with the PMA server lasts 24 hours. Your year-long sign-in being valid is exactly why nothing looks wrong, and why Reconnect seems like it should work. It's the 24-hour registration that needs replacing.

Solution: Remove the Connector and Add It Back

  1. Remove the Power My Analytics connector completely. Don't click Reconnect.
    • Claude Desktop or Claude Web: go to Settings > Connectors and remove Power My Analytics from your connector list. In Claude Desktop, restart the app afterward.
    • Claude Code: run claude mcp remove pma-mcp in your terminal.
    • ChatGPT: open Plugins > Personal, select Power My Analytics (or the name you gave the app), and remove it.
    • Another MCP client: remove the Power My Analytics custom connector from that client's connector or integration settings.
  2. Add the connector again using the server address https://pma-mcp.web.app.
  3. Sign in to Power My Analytics within 10 minutes. When the browser window opens, sign in, choose your hub, and continue through to the Authorization Successful page. The pending sign-in is only valid for about 10 minutes, so if you get pulled away, start over at step 2 rather than finishing an old window.
  4. Test the connection. Ask your assistant something simple, such as "List my connected data sources." In ChatGPT, start a new chat, type @, and select the Power My Analytics app first.
Notes
If someone else added the connector for your team (for example, your Claude organization's Owner), ask them to remove and re-add it, then connect your own PMA account again.

Still Not Working? Check Your Hub

In your Hub, click MCP in the left navigation (under MCP & API) and look at the Connected Application table. For a tour of that page, see Using the MCP Page in Your PMA Hub.
  • Your new connection is listed. Sign-in worked, so the problem is between your AI assistant and the PMA server, most often a company network. Some corporate firewalls and proxies let the sign-in page through (it's an ordinary web page) but block or cut off the longer-running connection your assistant opens afterward. Try again from a different network, such as home Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot. If it connects there, ask your IT team to allow https://pma-mcp.web.app and to permit long-lived streaming responses.
  • Nothing is listed, even after a couple of clean attempts. Your sign-in isn't being saved on our side, and that's one for us. Submit a ticket and let us know you've already tried removing and re-adding the connector.

When Removing and Re-Adding Won't Help

A few situations look similar but have a different fix:
  • Your PMA subscription is inactive. Restore billing in your Hub first, then connect again.
  • You've hit your plan's per-minute request limit. Wait about a minute and try again. See Get Started with Power My Analytics API for the limits on each plan; MCP and the API share the same limits.
  • An API token was pasted in where the sign-in flow was expected. Remove the connector and add it back using the normal sign-in instead. The same failure appears if a token was revoked or belongs to a different organization.
Notes
The address is never the cause. https://pma-mcp.web.app and https://pma-mcp.web.app/mcp reach the same server, and a trailing slash makes no difference. If the connector won't reconnect, changing the URL won't fix it.

When to Contact Support

  • The Connected Application table doesn't show your connection after a couple of clean remove-and-re-add attempts.
  • Your connection is listed, but it still fails on a network without a corporate firewall or proxy.
Including a few details helps us resolve it faster: which AI client you're using, that you've already removed and re-added the connector, whether you're on a company network, and a screenshot of the error if you have one.
