Amazon Ads Data Connector User Guide
Amazon Ads is a powerful advertising platform that allows sellers and brands to promote their products on Amazon. This guide will walk you through how to connect Amazon Ads to Power My Analytics, create reports in Looker Studio, and understand key metrics and limitations.
Prerequisites
Before connecting Amazon Ads to Power My Analytics, ensure you have:
- An active Amazon Ads account
- A developer account on Amazon:
- Registered as a developer at developer.amazon.com
- Created a Login with Amazon (LwA) security profile
- Amazon Ads API access:
- Approved application for Direct Advertiser API access
- API access assigned to your LwA application
- Required credentials:
- Client ID from your LwA security profile
- Client Secret from your LwA security profile
- Scopes configured for your LwA application, including:
- profile
- advertising::campaign_management
- Configured return URLs:
- Allowed Return URLs set to: https://us-central1-power-my-analytics.cloudfunctions.net/connectors-amazon-token and https://us-central1-power-my-analytics.cloudfunctions.net/connectors-amazon-auth/token
- Basic understanding of Amazon Ads terminology and metrics
Adding Amazon Ads as a Data Source
- Navigate to your Hub and select Sources from the menu.
- Click + Add new source and choose Amazon Ads from the gallery.
- Enter your Client ID and Client Secret from Amazon Ads and click Connect.
Creating a Looker Studio Report
Follow these steps to create a Looker Studio report using your Amazon Ads data:
- After adding Amazon Ads as a data source in the PMA hub, navigate to Reports > Looker Studio
- Select Amazon Ads under Create Looker Studio Report (opens official Looker Studio application in new window)
- Google Looker Studio Configuration:
- Step 1:
- Name data source: "Untitled Data Source" > unique name (e.g. "Amazon Ads - Organization Name")
- Choose Power My Analytics hub from dropdown
- Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked for PMA demo template
- Click Next
- Step 2:
- User Account: select Amazon Ads account (real data) or "Sample Account" (sample data)
- Click Next
- Step 3:
- Choose "Accounts" for reports
- Optional: Allow "Accounts" modification in reports
- Click Connect (top right) to complete the data source configuration
- Step 4:
- Click Create Report (top right)
Key Reports and Fields
Amazon Ads data in Power My Analytics offers a wide range of metrics and dimensions. Here are some popular metrics you can use in your reports:
- Key Performance Metrics: Spend, Sales, ACOS, Impressions, Clicks
- Campaign Metrics: Budget, Cost Type, Spend, Orders, Sales, ROAS
- Ad Group Metrics: Spend, Orders, Sales, ROAS
- Advertised Product Metrics: Spend, Orders, Sales, ROAS
- Targeting Metrics: Spend, Orders, Sales, ROAS
- Search Term Metrics: Clicks, Spend, Orders, Sales, ROAS

Limitations and Important Considerations
- Backfilling: Backfilling is limited to 60 days.
- Initial backfill: An initial backfill of the past 60 days of data will be performed when you first connect your Amazon Ads account as a data source
- Adding an Amazon Ads data source to an existing report: The Amazon Ads data source must be created from your PMA hub, then added to the report.
- Search term breakdown reporting: Search term breakdown is not currently available for Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Brand Video campaigns. This functionality should become available when Amazon’s v3 API exits preview, and all campaign types are supported.
- Field limitations with Sponsored Display ads: The following fields can only be used with Sponsored Display ads:
- Bid
- Bid Optimization
- Bid Multiplier
- Ad Format
- Landing Page URL
- Campaign Serving Status

How to Blend Amazon Data with Other Data
Report Amazon Ads Data with Amazon Sales Data
To join Amazon Ads data with sales data:
- Export your Amazon Ads data into a Google Sheet.
- Either join that data in Google Sheets/Excel or create a data source in Looker Studio with the Google Sheets connector. Google offers this support article on the subject if you require a more detailed walk-through.
- Use the Blending feature in Looker Studio when you need both Ads and Sales data in the same report.
