ChatGPT Ads lets businesses advertise inside ChatGPT, with campaigns managed in OpenAI Ads Manager. With the Power My Analytics ChatGPT Ads connector, you can bring your ChatGPT Ads impressions, clicks, and spend into your reports. This guide covers what you need before you connect, how to add ChatGPT Ads as a data source, how to build your first report, and where to find the available fields.
ChatGPT Ads is an Alpha connector. It is newly released and available for early access, so fields, configuration options, and behavior may change as we build it out. If ChatGPT Ads does not appear when you add a new source in your Hub,
submit a ticket to request access. We will expand this guide as the connector develops, and your feedback helps shape what comes next.
ChatGPT Ads connector or PMA MCP Server? The ChatGPT Ads connector brings your advertising data from OpenAI Ads Manager (impressions, clicks, and spend for the ads you run in ChatGPT) into your Hub as a data source, while the Power My Analytics MCP Server works the other way around: it lets you ask ChatGPT questions about the data from all of your connected sources. To use ChatGPT with your PMA data, see
Connect to the PMA MCP Server from ChatGPT.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Access to OpenAI Ads Manager for the ChatGPT Ads ad account you want to report on.
- A ChatGPT Ads API key. You will create this in OpenAI Ads Manager under Settings and paste it into your Hub when you add the source. Each key covers one ad account, so you need a separate key for each ad account you want to connect.
Adding ChatGPT Ads as a Data Source
- In OpenAI Ads Manager, go to Settings, create an API key, and copy it.
- In your Power My Analytics Hub, select Sources from the menu.
- Click + Add new source and choose ChatGPT Ads from the gallery. You can type "ChatGPT" in the search box to find it quickly.
- Paste your key into API key. If you like, enter an Account name to help you tell this ad account apart from others (leave it blank to use the ad account's name from OpenAI Ads Manager), then click Connect.
Power My Analytics begins backfilling up to 365 days of your daily ChatGPT Ads history. To connect another ad account, repeat these steps with that ad account's API key.
Creating a Data Studio Report
- In your Hub, go to Reports > Data Studio and click the orange + Create report button.
- In the Templates window, select Single sources, find ChatGPT Ads, and click Open in Data Studio.
- In Data Studio, click Authorize if you are prompted, then select your Power My Analytics Hub and the ChatGPT Ads account you connected.
- Click Connect (top right), then click Create report.
Key Reports and Fields
The ChatGPT Ads connector provides three daily tables: Ad Performance, Country Breakdown, and Device Breakdown.
Limitations and Important Considerations
- Backfilling: Power My Analytics backfills up to 365 days of daily history when you first connect a ChatGPT Ads ad account. ChatGPT Ads does not provide daily data older than 365 days.
- Alpha connector: While ChatGPT Ads is in Alpha, fields, configuration options, and behavior may change. If a field is renamed or removed, you may need to update the reports that use it.
- One breakdown per table: Country Breakdown and Device Breakdown are separate tables, so you cannot combine country and device in one view (for example, clicks by country by device).
- Today's data: Ad Performance includes today's results so far. Country Breakdown and Device Breakdown show data through your latest data sync, so they do not include today's partial day.
- Currencies: Spend and cost metrics are reported in your ad account's currency. If your ad accounts use different currencies, report on them separately or convert the values before totaling spend.
- API keys: If you revoke or rotate your API key in OpenAI Ads Manager, your data source stops syncing until you connect it again with a current key.
- Who sees ChatGPT ads: OpenAI shows ads to adult users on the ChatGPT Free and Go plans, in select regions; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts do not see ads. Your reach and results reflect that audience.
Unavailable Data
The following ChatGPT Ads data is not currently available through the Power My Analytics ChatGPT Ads connector:
- Conversions and attributed sales
- Campaign, ad group, and ad settings, such as status, budget, and start and end dates
- Product (shopping feed) and platform (app versus web) breakdowns
- Hourly data
If there is a ChatGPT Ads field or report you would like to see, please
submit a ticket with a description or screenshot of what you need. Requests during Alpha help us decide what to add next.
Troubleshooting
If your ChatGPT Ads data does not look the way you expect, start with
Basic Troubleshooting. A few ChatGPT Ads patterns are worth checking first:
- The connection fails when you click Connect: Check that your API key was copied in full with no extra spaces and that it has not been deleted in OpenAI Ads Manager. If in doubt, create a new key and connect with it.
- Your data source stopped syncing: Your API key may have been revoked or rotated in OpenAI Ads Manager. Connect your ChatGPT Ads source again with a current key.
- Only one ad account appears: Each API key covers one ad account. Add each additional ad account as its own source, using that ad account's key.
- Today's country or device data is missing: This is expected. The breakdown tables show data through your latest sync; use Ad Performance for today's results so far.
