Data sources (accounts) that you've disconnected may unexpectedly reappear in your Sources section. This guide will help you understand why this happens and provide two effective solutions to permanently block a data source.
Understanding the Issue
Why Disconnected Data Sources Reappear
A connected data source will only appear under Sources in the hub if at least one report is using the data source. When you disconnect a data source in Power My Analytics, it may still show up in your Sources section if:
- At least one report is still using the data source
- A report attempts to pull data, triggering the source to reconnect
This can happen with Looker Studio reports, spreadsheet reports, or Data Explorer reports.
Solution 1: Remove the Data Source from Reports
This method requires a manual review of all your PMA reports to identify and remove the disconnected data source.
Steps to Remove the Data Source:
Check Looker Studio Reports
- Review all your Looker Studio reports by going to the Reports tab in Looker Studio
- Ensure none are using the disconnected data source
- Remove the data source if found in any report
Check Spreadsheet Reports
- Examine all Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel reports using the PMA spreadsheets add-on
- Ensure they're not using the disconnected data source
- Remove the data source if present
Check Data Explorer Reports
- Go through all reports in Data Explorer
- Confirm none are using the disconnected data source
- Remove the data source if found
Note: Google doesn't provide a way for PMA to automatically locate all Looker Studio reports using a specific data source.
Solution 2: Block the Data Source in Sources
This approach doesn't require identifying specific reports using the source.
Steps to Block a Data Source:
- Navigate to the Sources section in your PMA hub
- Locate the data source you want to block and click the blue arrow next to the source
- Select Block Connection and click Confirm to block the account
Important: Do not remove the data source from Sources. Removal will also remove the block, allowing reconnection when a report attempts to access it.
