How to Connect to QuickBooks

Info
Looking to bring your QuickBooks accounting data into a single, automated reporting workflow? This guide will walk you through connecting QuickBooks as a data source in Power My Analytics, so you can centralize your profit and loss, balance sheet, accounts receivable, and invoice metrics, create comprehensive reports, and make data-driven decisions about your business's financial performance.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
  • An Intuit account login (email, user ID, or phone number) with access to the QuickBooks company file you want to connect
  • Permission to grant Power My Analytics access to your Intuit account during the OAuth flow

Step 1: Add QuickBooks as a Data Source in Power My Analytics

  1. Log in to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com.
  2. Navigate to Sources from the main menu.
  3. Click + Add new source.
  4. Select QuickBooks from the list of available sources.
  5. Sign in to your Intuit account when prompted.
  6. Authorize the requested permission scopes to complete the connection.
Once connected, QuickBooks will appear in your list of active data sources. Your QuickBooks data will automatically begin syncing to your Power My Analytics data warehouse — 13 months of historical data is imported automatically on the initial backfill, with up to 2 years available via manual backfill. When the initial backfill is finished, you can use this data in Looker Studio reports, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or export it to your preferred data destination.
Notes
Power My Analytics' connector will never edit, create, or delete anything in your QuickBooks account. Authorization scopes are read-only for the data needed to populate your reports.
Notes
Invoice dates based on: When you set up reports in Looker Studio, pay close attention to the Invoice dates based on parameter in the connector configuration screen — your selection (Invoice date, Due date, etc.) will materially change the figures in your reports.
Notes
Mix-and-match errors: QuickBooks data is organized into several table spaces (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Invoices, etc.). Combining metrics from different table spaces in the same chart will produce a "mix and match" error. Check the Schema Explorer before building charts and filters to confirm all selected fields belong to the same table space.
