How to Connect to Semrush Analytics

Connecting your Semrush account to Power My Analytics allows you to centralize your SEO and search visibility data for more efficient reporting and analysis. This guide will walk you through finding your Semrush API key and connecting Semrush Analytics as a data source in PMA.

Requirements

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  • A Semrush account with a paid subscription that includes an API Units allotment
  • Access to view the API key on your Semrush account's Subscription Info page
  • The plain API key from Subscription Info > API Units (not a personal access token)
Notes
Semrush API access is tied to your subscription plan, and there is no free API tier. Each request consumes API units from your Semrush account.

Step 1: Get Your Semrush API Key

The Semrush Analytics connector authenticates with an API key.
  1. Log in to your Semrush account.
  2. Open the API Units page (Subscription Info > API Units) to find your API key.
  3. Copy the API key so it is ready to paste into Power My Analytics.

Make sure you copy the API key, not a personal access token. Semrush hands out more than one kind of credential and they look similar. If the value you copied starts with semrtkn-pat-, that is a personal access token and it will not work here. The key you need is on the API Units page, under Subscription Info > API Units.

Step 2: Connect Semrush Analytics to Power My Analytics

  1. Go to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com and click on Sources in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the + Add new source button.
  3. Find and select Semrush Analytics from the data source gallery.
  4. Enter the API Key you copied from Semrush.
  5. Optional: Enter a Name to give this account a nickname.
  6. Click Connect to authenticate.
  7. You should see the "Source was successfully added" confirmation message.
Your Semrush account is now connected to Power My Analytics, and PMA will begin collecting your historical data automatically.

Troubleshooting: "invalid api key"

If the connect screen returns a block of red text containing "invalid api key", one of these things is true:

How to fix it
You pasted a personal access token (starts with semrtkn-pat-)
Go back to the API Units page and copy the plain API key instead
You pasted the key with extra spaces or a line break
Re-copy it, and paste it into the field without leading or trailing spaces
Your Semrush plan does not include API Units
Check the API Units page. If no key appears there, also check the API keys page. If neither page shows a key, API access is not included in your Semrush subscription, and you will need to contact Semrush about adding API access to your plan.


All of these produce the same error message, so work down the list in order.

One more thing: that error screen shows your pasted credential back to you. Blank it out before you screenshot it for a support ticket, and if a screenshot with a visible key has already been shared, regenerate the key in Semrush.

Remove Your Semrush Analytics Data Source from PMA

If you would like to disconnect your Semrush account from Power My Analytics:
  1. Go to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com and click on Sources in the left sidebar.
  2. Find your Semrush Analytics data source in the list of connected sources. Click the three dots to open the Action menu.
  3. Click Remove source.
  4. Click Confirm to remove the Semrush Analytics data source from PMA.
