Semrush Data Connector User Guide
Get valuable insights into your search visibility by connecting your Semrush account to Power My Analytics. This guide will walk you through setting up Semrush as a data source and creating reports to track domain rank, organic traffic, keywords, and paid search performance.
Prerequisites
Before connecting Semrush to Power My Analytics, ensure you have:
- A Semrush account with a paid subscription that includes an API Units allotment
- Your Semrush API key
Find Your Semrush API Key
You will need to enter your API key in Power My Analytics when connecting your Semrush account as a data source. To find it, log in to Semrush and open the
API Units page (Subscription Info > API Units), then copy your API key.
Semrush API access is tied to your subscription plan, and there is no free API tier. Each request consumes API units from your Semrush account; unit costs vary by report type and row count.
Adding Semrush as a Data Source
- Go to your Power My Analytics hub and select Sources from the main menu.
- Click + Add new source and choose Semrush Analytics from the gallery of data sources.
- Enter the API Key that you obtained from Semrush.
- Optional: Enter a Name to give this account a nickname.
- Click Connect to authenticate and finish adding your Semrush account as a data source.
Creating a Data Studio Report
Follow these steps to create a Data Studio report using your Semrush data:
- In the PMA hub, navigate to Reports > Data Studio
Select Semrush under Create Data Studio Report (this will open the official Data Studio application in a new window)
Key Reports and Fields
The Semrush connector provides access to your domain's search visibility data through the Domain Ranks table, including:
- Key Performance Metrics: Rank, Organic Traffic, Organic Keywords, Organic Cost, and Adwords Keywords, plus Organic Traffic and Adwords Traffic by Date, Rank by Date, Organic Keywords and Adwords Keywords by Date, and Organic Cost and Adwords Cost by Date
- Domain and Database Metrics: Rank, Organic Traffic, Organic Keywords, Adwords Traffic, and Adwords Cost by Domain and Database
- Dimensions: Domain, Database, Date, and Data Freshness
For a full list of available Semrush fields in Power My Analytics, visit the
Schema Explorer.
Limitations and Important Considerations
- Backfilling: Up to 2 years. Up to 24 months of historical Semrush data is available for backfilling.
- Rate limits: The Semrush API allows up to 10 requests per second and 10 simultaneous requests per account.
- API unit consumption: Each request consumes API units from your Semrush subscription. Costs scale with data volume and are significantly higher for historical data requests; a historical request can consume several times more units than an equivalent live request.

Troubleshooting
- Data differences between Semrush and PMA reports: Semrush API results can differ from the values displayed in the Semrush website interface due to differences in sampling, caching, filters, and data update cycles. See Semrush's API Troubleshooting guide for details.
