No Data in Google Search Ads 360 Due to Account Hierarchy Level
Your Google Search Ads 360 data source connects successfully, but your reports return no data, or accounts you expect to see are missing. In enterprise Search Ads 360 setups this is most often an account hierarchy issue. This article explains how the Search Ads 360 hierarchy affects your connection and how to fix it. For an overview of the connector, see the
Google Search Ads 360 Data Connector User Guide.
Issue
After connecting Google Search Ads 360 as a data source, reports return no data, or some of the Search Ads 360 accounts you expect are not available for selection.
Cause
Search Ads 360 uses a three-tier account hierarchy: Manager, Sub-manager, and Client account. Data can only be requested by a Google account that sits at or above the level of the Search Ads 360 account that owns the data. If the Google account you connected sits below the owning account in the hierarchy (for example, a client-level account when the data belongs to a sub-manager, or a sub-manager account under a different branch of the hierarchy), Search Ads 360 returns no data for that request. Enterprise Search Ads 360 setups are often multi-tier, which makes this the most common cause of empty Search Ads 360 reports.
Solution
- Identify which Search Ads 360 account owns the data you want to report on, and where it sits in your Manager, Sub-manager, and Client account hierarchy.
- Confirm your Google account's access in Search Ads 360. You need Manager or Sub-manager access at read-only permissions or above, at or above the level of the owning account. Google's "Read-only without billing" role is sufficient; "Email-only without billing" is not, because those users cannot sign in. Google recommends connecting with the manager account at the top of your hierarchy.
Reconnect the data source with the correct Google account:
- In your hub, go to Sources, click the three-dots Action menu next to your Google Search Ads 360 source, and select Remove source, then Confirm.
- Click + Add new source and choose Google Search Ads 360.
- Sign in with the Google account that has access at or above the owning account, and click Allow to grant the requested permissions.
- Check your account selection. In the hub, open Action > Manage accounts to confirm the accounts you expect are enabled; in Data Studio, confirm the Accounts selection for your data source includes them (or use "--- Select All Accounts ---").
Disconnecting and reconnecting a data source will not impact your existing reports.
