Searches Breakdown or Searches Total Shows No Data in Google Business Profile

Searches Breakdown or Searches Total Shows No Data in Google Business Profile

Info
If Searches Breakdown [dimension] or Searches Total [scorecard] comes back empty in your Google Business Profile report, and there's no error message, the fix is almost always your date range. These two fields report one total per calendar month instead of a value per day, so they need a date range that covers whole calendar months. Adjust the range and your Searches data appears.

What You're Seeing

  • A chart, table, or scorecard that uses Searches Breakdown [dimension] or Searches Total [scorecard] shows no data.
  • There's no error message; the component is simply empty.
  • Other Google Business Profile fields in the same report (such as calls, website clicks, or direction requests) show data as expected.
  • Applies to: All plans
  • Connector: Google Business Profile
  • Destinations: All (Data Studio, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and others)

Why This Happens

Google provides Searches Breakdown and Searches Total as monthly totals only; they aren't available by day. They're the only two Google Business Profile fields documented to work this way.

When your report's date range is short (for example, the last 7 days) or starts or ends partway through a month, these fields don't have a monthly total to show, so they come back empty. Nothing is wrong with your data source or your connection.

Set Your Date Range to Whole Calendar Months

  1. Open your report and select the date range control.
  2. Choose a range that starts on the first day of a month and ends on the last day of a month. For example, choose August 1 to August 31 rather than August 12 to August 19.
  3. Apply the range. Your Searches data appears.

In Data Studio, the Last month preset is a quick way to select one full calendar month. In Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, set your query's start and end dates to whole calendar months in the same way.

Notes
Keep your weekly dashboard as it is. If the rest of your report uses a short range, give your Searches chart its own date range. In Data Studio, select the Searches chart, set its Default date range to Custom, and choose Last month. The rest of your report keeps its usual range.

Still Empty? Check These Next

  1. Your range still splits a month. Widen it so it covers at least one full calendar month from start to finish.
  2. The month isn't finished yet. Because these fields report one total per month, the month in progress doesn't have a total yet. Google Business Profile data can also be delayed by up to 4 days, so during the first few days of a new month, the month that just ended may still be filling in. Wait a few days, then check again.
  3. The number really is zero. Google reports any month with fewer than 15 search impressions as 0. On a quieter location, a 0 is your real result, not missing data.

If your other Google Business Profile fields are empty too, the date range isn't the cause. Check that the location is enabled in your data source (Sources > your Google Business Profile data source > Manage Accounts), then see Missing or Delayed Data in Google Business Profile.

What to Expect in Your Reports

  • One figure per month, not a daily trend. Searches data won't draw a day-by-day line.
  • Several months are added together. If your range covers more than one month (for example, This year), you'll see one combined total for the whole period rather than a month-by-month breakdown. To compare months side by side, add one chart per month, each set to a single full calendar month. See Reporting Across Multiple Months.
  • Scorecards: Only Searches Total can be used in a scorecard.
  • Reconnecting won't change this. This is how Google supplies these two fields, so reconnecting your data source won't change how they report.

Need a Hand?

If your Searches fields are still empty after setting a whole-month range, submit a ticket and include:

  • Your report's share link (pasted as text, not a screenshot)
  • The date range you're using
  • The name of the business location you're reporting on
