Google Business Profile Data Connector User Guide

Google Business Profile Data Connector User Guide

Info
Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business) is a powerful tool for businesses to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. This guide will walk you through how to connect and use Google Business Profile data in Power My Analytics, enabling you to gain valuable insights into your business's local search performance and customer interactions.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  1. A Google account with Owner or Manager access to the Google Business Profile account you want to connect

Adding Google Business Profile as a Data Source

  1. Log out of all Google accounts except the one you want to connect.
  2. In your Power My Analytics Hub, navigate to Sources in the menu.
  3. Click + New Data Source and select Google from the gallery.
  4. Sign in to your Google account when prompted.
  5. Grant Power My Analytics the required permissions (See, edit, create, and delete your Google Business listings) for your Google account. Power My Analytics will never edit, create, or delete anything in your Google Business Profile account; Google does not provide a read-only option.

Limitations and Important Considerations

  1. Backfilling: Power My Analytics can backfill up to 18 months of data, with an initial backfill of 13 months when you first connect.
    1. Historical data: Accumulate up to 2 years of historical data over time.
  2. Data delay: Data may be delayed by up to 4 days.
  3. Reviews: Review data may take several hours to populate when you first connect.
  4. Searches Breakdown [dimension] and Searches Total [scorecard]: These fields only provide aggregated monthly data and are not available by day.
  5. Searches scorecard: Only Searches Total [scorecard] can be used as a scorecard.
  6. Search impressions: Monthly Search Impressions with under 15 impressions will report as 0.
  7. Review counts: May differ from the Google Business Profile UI by up to 1% due to deleted and contested reviews.
  8. Business Food Orders deprecated: The Business Food Orders field will no longer receive new data as of September 16, 2024. This field will be removed on March 30, 2025.

Unavailable Data

  1. Queries data
  2. Realtime data
  3. Custom fields

Reporting Across Multiple Months

When you select multiple months in your reports, Google Business Profile data will be totaled across the entire period rather than providing granular month-by-month data. To view your data broken down by individual months, you'll need to create:
  1. Separate charts for each month in Looker Studio reports.

  2. Individual reports for each month in Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or other spreadsheet destinations.

Report Average Star Rating in Looker Studio

To report your business's star rating in Looker Studio as it appears on Google:
  1. Add a scorecard with the metric Star Rating. Set the metric's aggregation to "Average".
  2. Set the beginning of the scorecard's date range to the opening of your business.
