Data Studio Shows Null or Blank Values, but the Data Is in Power My Analytics

Info
If your Data Studio report shows null or blank cells where it used to show numbers, and those same fields return data in your Power My Analytics hub, your report is asking for an outdated list of fields. A quick field refresh brings the data back. You won't lose anything, and you don't need to rebuild your report.

What You're Seeing

  • Columns or charts in your Data Studio report show null, blank, or empty values that used to have data.
  • The same fields show data when you look at them in your Power My Analytics hub.
  • There's no error message; the cells are simply empty.
  • Refreshing the report or reconnecting the data source hasn't helped.
  • Applies to: All plans and all connectors
  • Data Destination Affected: Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio)

Why This Happens

When you first create a Data Studio data source, Data Studio saves a copy of the fields available at that moment. If a platform later renames a field, retires one, or adds new ones, your existing report keeps asking for the old copy of the field list, so the affected columns come back empty.

Your Power My Analytics hub always reads the current field list, which is why it still shows your data while your report doesn't.

Notes
A real example: On June 15, 2026, Meta retired several older Facebook Insights reach and video view fields and added Views (Facebook views) as a replacement. Reports created before that date kept asking for the retired fields and showed blanks, while brand-new reports looked fine. Same data, two different copies of the field list.

Refresh Your Field List

  1. Open your report and click Edit (top right).
  2. Go to Resource > Manage added data sources.
  3. Click Edit next to your Power My Analytics data source.
  4. Click Refresh Fields (bottom left).
  5. Click Done, then go back to your report.

Your columns should fill back in. If you use more than one Power My Analytics data source in the report, repeat these steps for each one that shows blank values.

Notes
Note: Refresh Fields only updates the list of fields your report can use. It doesn't fetch missing data, fill in past dates, or change any of your numbers. If a field was retired by the platform, refreshing makes its replacement available; swap the replacement into your chart to see data again.

Why Reconnecting Didn't Fix It

Reconnecting a data source (Edit Connection > Reconnect) re-establishes which hub and account your report reads from. That's the right fix for permission and access problems, but it doesn't refresh the saved field list. Refresh Fields is a separate button, and it's the one that fixes this issue. If you already reconnected, no harm done; just follow the steps above.

Still Blank? Check for an Error Message

This issue is silent: no popup, just empty cells. If you do see an error message, it points to a different cause:

If there's no error message and your columns are still empty after refreshing your fields, submit a ticket and include:

  • Your report's share link (pasted as text, not a screenshot)
  • The name of one field that shows blank values

Good to Know

  • Run Refresh Fields whenever a platform announces field changes, or any time an older report and a newer report on the same data disagree.
  • A newly created Data Studio data source always picks up the current field list.
