Meta has retired the Nielsen DMA (Designated Market Area) geographic breakdown in the Facebook Ads API and replaced it with Comscore Markets. Power My Analytics has already updated the Facebook Ads connector to handle this change for you, so your reports keep working with no action needed on your end.
What changed
As part of Meta's Out-of-Cycle Changes for 2026 (OCC-2026), Meta retired the DMA (Nielsen Designated Market Area) geographic breakdown in the Facebook Ads API and replaced it with Comscore Markets. After this change, Meta's API rejects requests that use the old DMA breakdown, which is why any Facebook Ads report using DMA-level geographic segmentation briefly returned errors or stopped syncing.
This change comes from Meta and affects every tool that reports Facebook Ads data by DMA, not just Power My Analytics.
What Power My Analytics did
We updated the Facebook Ads connector so that it automatically requests Meta's new Comscore Markets breakdown behind the scenes and continues to deliver it to you under the same DMA field you already use. This translation happens at the connection to Meta's API only, so:
- Your field names stay the same.
- Your warehouse columns (for example, in BigQuery) stay the same.
- Your Data Studio, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and other reports and dashboards keep working without edits.
Facebook Ads reports that use the DMA breakdown resumed syncing automatically once this update went live.
Do I need to do anything?
No. This update is already in effect for all Facebook Ads data sources. If a report showed an error or a gap in DMA data during the changeover, the next daily Data Sync will refresh it automatically. If you would like to fill in a specific historical range right away, you can run a manual backfill from your Hub (Sources > Action > Backfill data range).
A note on geographic market codes
Meta's DMA and Comscore Markets systems cover the same set of U.S. geographic markets, referenced by the same market names (for example, "New York" or "Los Angeles"), so reports that display or group by market name are unaffected.
Because Meta moved from Nielsen's system to Comscore's, the underlying numeric market codes are not identical between the two systems. If your report or downstream process relies on the specific numeric market code value rather than the market name, we recommend confirming that your groupings and filters still return what you expect. For most reports, which reference markets by name, there is nothing to change.
