Google Display & Video 360 (DV360) Data Connector User Guide
Google Display & Video 360 (DV360) is Google's programmatic advertising platform (a demand-side platform, or DSP), allowing marketers to plan, buy, and measure display, video, and connected-TV campaigns across the open web. This guide will walk you through how to connect your Google DV360 data to Power My Analytics, create reports in Data Studio, and understand key metrics and considerations when working with DV360 data.
Prerequisites
Before connecting Google DV360 to Power My Analytics:
- Ensure you have an active Display & Video 360 subscription.
Ensure your Google account has a user role on the DV360 partner or advertiser you want to report on. DV360's user roles are Admin (partner level only), Standard, Read only, Reporting only, Planner, Creative, and Creative admin; the Read only role is sufficient for reporting.
- The Creative role is the exception: Creative users cannot report on cost-related metrics, so an account connected with that role will show delivery data with blank cost and spend values. Connect with a role of Read only or above instead.
- Decide whether to connect at the partner or advertiser level. Partner-level access covers all the advertisers beneath that partner, while advertiser-level access is limited to that advertiser. Make sure the Google account you connect can reach the specific partner whose data you want to report on.
You must grant Power My Analytics permission to access your Google account and authorize the requested permissions, including View and manage your reports in DoubleClick Bid Manager (DoubleClick Bid Manager is the former name of the DV360 reporting service).
- Power My Analytics' connector will never edit, create, or delete anything in your account. Google does not provide read-only options for these permissions.
Adding Google DV360 as a Data Source
- Make sure you are logged out of all Google accounts other than the one you are connecting.
- Navigate to your Hub and select Sources from the menu.
- Click + Add New Source and choose Google DV 360 from the gallery.
- Choose the Google account that has access to your DV360 partner or advertiser, then click Continue to sign in.
- Grant Power My Analytics access to your Google account, authorize the required permission scopes (See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets; Connect to an external service; Create, see, edit, and permanently delete your Display & Video 360 entities and reports; View and manage your reports in DoubleClick Bid Manager; View and manage your advertising data in DoubleClick Search), and click Allow.
Power My Analytics will never edit, create, or delete anything in your account. The full-access wording appears because Google does not offer read-only options for these permissions.
Creating a Data Studio Report
- After adding Google DV360 as a data source, go to Reports > Data Studio in your PMA hub
- Select Google DV 360 under Create Data Studio Report (this will open the official Data Studio application in a new window)
Google Data Studio Configuration:
Step 1:
- Name your data source (e.g. "Google DV360 - Your Company Name")
- Select your Power My Analytics hub from the dropdown
- Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked for the PMA report template
- Click Next
Step 2:
- User Account: Choose the Google account you connected to DV360 in your hub
- Advertisers: Select the advertisers you want to include in your reports. Choose "--- Select All Advertisers ---" to include everything, or check individual advertisers (you can search the list to find specific advertisers)
- Optional: Allow "Advertisers" modification in reports
- Click Connect (top right)
Step 3:
- Click Create Report (top right)
Key Reports and Fields
Google DV360 data in Power My Analytics is organized into four tables: Campaigns Dimensions and Campaigns Insights (joined on Campaign ID), and Line Items Dimensions and Line Items Insights (joined on Line Item ID). The Dimensions tables carry your campaign and line item attributes, and the Insights tables carry the daily metrics, so you can slice any metric by the attributes of the campaign or line item that delivered it. Here are some of the most useful field combinations:
- Performance overview: Track Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Total Conversions, and Total Media Cost by Date to monitor delivery trends, then break the same metrics out by Campaign Name and Campaign Goal Type to see where your spend is going and which campaign objectives are earning it.
- Campaign and line item delivery: Combine Media Cost, Billable Impressions, Media Cost eCPC, Media Cost eCPM, and Engagement Rate with Line Item Name, Line Item Type, and Insertion Order ID to compare how your display and video line items are delivering. Line item attributes such as Budget Unit, Budget Allocation Type, Pacing Period, Pacing Type, and Entity Status add budgeting and pacing context to each row.
- Video performance: DV360's quartile funnel (Starts Video, First Quartile Views Video, Midpoint Views Video, Third Quartile Views Video, and Complete Views Video) pairs with Video Completion Rate to show exactly where viewers drop off, by campaign or by line item.
- Viewability and traffic quality: The Active View funnel (Active View Eligible Impressions, Measurable Impressions, and Viewable Impressions, with Active View % Measurable Impressions, Active View % Viewable Impressions, and Active View Average Viewable Time Seconds) measures whether your ads were actually seen, while Invalid Impressions and Invalid Clicks alongside Billable Impressions show how much traffic was filtered out before billing.
- Cost, fees, and profitability: DV360 in Power My Analytics carries Revenue, Media Cost, Data Fees, Platform Fee, Total Media Cost, Billable Cost, and Profit together (all in advertiser currency), plus Revenue eCPM/eCPC and Media Cost eCPM/eCPC. For agencies, this makes margin reporting buildable out of the box: Profit is Revenue minus Total Media Cost, and you can present fee transparency by advertiser, campaign, or line item.
For a complete list of available Google DV360 fields, refer to the Schema Explorer.
Limitations and Important Considerations
- Revenue is not cost: In DV360, Revenue is calculated from your partner's markup function, appears only in reporting, and never appears on your Display & Video 360 invoice; Google states that DV360 invoices always reflect actual costs, not revenue. When reconciling against your invoice, use Billable Cost or Total Media Cost, not Revenue. Profit (Revenue minus Total Media Cost) is a reporting construct for agencies that apply markups.
- Backfilling: Display & Video 360 retains most reporting data for 24 months, which is the upper bound for backfills. Some data types have shorter platform-side retention (for example, audience performance data is retained for 98 days).
- Data freshness: Impression and click data in DV360 updates every 3 to 4 hours, conversion data updates approximately every 6 hours, and cross-environment conversion data updates every 24 hours. Entity name changes take 24 hours to appear in reports. If your most recent days look low or empty, check back after these windows have passed.
- DV360 restates recent data: Google can update DV360 data for up to 31 days to make reports as accurate as possible, so figures for recent dates are provisional and can shift slightly as they finalize.
- Time zone: DV360's reporting service defaults to the America/New_York (US Eastern) time zone. If you compare your reports against the DV360 UI in a different time zone, small differences at day boundaries are expected and are not a connector issue.
- Advertiser currency only: All cost and revenue metrics are reported in each advertiser's own currency, and there is no conversion to a single reporting currency. The Advertiser Currency dimension identifies each advertiser's currency code, but spend cannot be totaled across advertisers that use different currencies.
- Total Conversions is blended: Total Conversions includes both post-click and post-view conversions, and a post-click vs. post-view split is not available.
- Creative role returns blank cost data: If your source was connected with a Google account holding the DV360 Creative role, delivery metrics will populate but cost and spend columns will stay blank. Reconnect with an account holding a role of Read only or above.
Unavailable Data
- YouTube & Partners / TrueView metrics (such as watch time by creative, quartiles by creative, TrueView views, and view rate)
- Creative dimensions (creative ID, creative name, creative size, and creative type)
- Insertion Order Name (Insertion Order ID is available)
- Budget amounts and flight start/end dates (so budget-pacing reports comparing spend to date against budget are not currently buildable)
- Post-click vs. post-view conversion split
- Geographic, device, operating system, browser, audience, exchange/inventory source, and app/URL dimensions
- Unique reach and frequency metrics (cookie-based reach metrics are deprecated in the current DV360 API)
- Floodlight / Campaign Manager 360 conversion activity breakdowns
Troubleshooting
- Figures not matching the DV360 UI: usually the US Eastern reporting time zone or DV360's 31-day restatement window (see Limitations above).
- Recent days looking low or empty: DV360's data freshness lags (3 to 4 hours for impressions and clicks, about 6 hours for conversions, 24 hours for cross-environment conversions).
- Cost and spend columns blank: the source was connected with the Creative role; reconnect with a role of Read only or above.
- No data, or data that doesn't match your own DV360 export: the connected Google account may not have access to the partner the data belongs to; connect an account with access to the correct partner, or grant your connected account access to it.
