How to Connect to Mailchimp
Looking to bring your Mailchimp email marketing data into a single, automated reporting workflow? This guide will walk you through connecting Mailchimp as a data source in Power My Analytics, so you can centralize your campaign and audience metrics, create comprehensive reports, and make data-driven decisions to improve your email marketing performance.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Mailchimp account with Admin or Owner access on the account you want to connect
If you do not yet have one of the required roles, follow Step 1 below to grant it before continuing.
Step 1: Grant Admin Access in Mailchimp
To grant Admin access to a user in Mailchimp:
- In your Mailchimp account, go to Account and click Settings > Users.
- Click Invite A User.
- Enter the user's email address and select the Admin role.
- Send the invitation, and have the invited user accept it before continuing.
Power My Analytics' connector will never edit, create, or delete anything in your Mailchimp account. The Admin or Owner role is required because Mailchimp's API limits reporting access to those roles.
Step 2: Add Mailchimp as a Data Source in Power My Analytics
- Log in to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com.
- Navigate to Sources from the main menu.
- Click + Add new source.
- Select Mailchimp from the list of available sources.
- Sign in to your Mailchimp account using credentials with Admin or Owner access from Step 1.
- Authorize the requested permission scopes to complete the connection.
Once connected, Mailchimp will appear in your list of active data sources. Your Mailchimp data will automatically begin syncing to your Power My Analytics data warehouse, and you can then use it in Looker Studio reports, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or export it to your preferred data destination.
Lifetime data only: Mailchimp's API only exposes lifetime metrics — historical sends, opens, and clicks cannot be backfilled. Daily collection of your lifetime data will begin from the day you first connect Mailchimp to Power My Analytics. To capture historical performance, include "today" in your report's date range when you first create a report.
Classic Automations only: Only classic Automations are available through Mailchimp's API. Newer Customer Journeys are not exposed for reporting.
