Connecting YouTube Public Data takes one step: enter the YouTube channels you want to track in your Hub. There is no Google sign-in and no API key. This guide shows you how to find each channel's link, handle, or ID, how to add the data source, how to fix connection errors, and how to change or remove the channels you track. For what the connector reports, see the
YouTube Public Data Data Connector User Guide.
YouTube Public Data is an Alpha connector. It is newly released and available for early access, so fields, configuration options, and behavior may change as we build it out. If YouTube Public Data does not appear when you add a new source in your Hub,
submit a ticket to request access.
Connecting your own channel's analytics? YouTube Public Data tracks public statistics for any channel, including competitors'. For watch time, audience, and traffic source data on a channel you own or manage, use our YouTube Analytics connector instead, which connects with Google sign-in. See the
YouTube Analytics Data Connector User Guide.
Requirements
- The public YouTube channels you want to track. They can be your own channels or anyone else's.
- No YouTube account, Google account, or API key. Power My Analytics reads public data with its own YouTube access.
- Up to 25 channels per connection. To track more, add another YouTube Public Data data source.
Connect YouTube Public Data to Power My Analytics
Step 1: Gather the channels you want to track
For each channel, you need one of the following:
Format | Example |
Channel link with a handle | youtube.com/@handle
|
Channel link with a channel ID | youtube.com/channel/UC...
|
Legacy username link | youtube.com/user/name
|
Handle | @handle
|
Channel ID | UC followed by 22 letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores
|
The quickest way to get a channel link is to open the channel's page on YouTube and copy the address from your browser's address bar. Links can start with https://, www., or m., and can end with a channel tab such as /videos.
These don't work: older custom URLs (youtube.com/c/name or youtube.com/name), video, Shorts, and playlist links, youtu.be links, and channel names without @. YouTube can't look up older custom URLs, so open the channel and copy its current link instead.
Step 2: Add YouTube Public Data as a data source in your Hub
- In your Power My Analytics Hub, select Sources from the menu.
- Click + Add new source.
- Choose YouTube Public Data from the connector gallery. You can type "YouTube" in the search box to find it quickly; make sure you pick YouTube Public Data, not YouTube Analytics.
In the connection window, enter:
- YouTube channels: your channel links, handles, or channel IDs, separated by commas
- Account name (optional): a nickname for this group of channels. Leave it blank to use the channel titles.
- Click Connect.
Power My Analytics checks each channel with YouTube when you click
Connect. If you entered the same channel twice (for example, as a link and as a handle), it is added once. Your YouTube Public Data data source then appears in
Sources, and the channels you entered are available to select. During Alpha, YouTube Public Data reports are not available yet; see the
YouTube Public Data Data Connector User Guide for what to expect.
Troubleshooting Connection Errors
- "Not a channel link, handle or ID": The entries listed use a format YouTube Public Data cannot look up. Replace them with a channel link, handle, or channel ID from Step 1, then click Connect again.
- "YouTube has no channel for": YouTube found no channel for the entries listed. Check the spelling, or open the channel on YouTube and copy its link from the address bar.
- "Enter up to 25 channels per connection": You entered more than 25 channels. Connect the first 25, then add another YouTube Public Data data source for the rest.
- "Enter at least one YouTube channel": The YouTube channels box is empty. Enter at least one channel, then click Connect.
- "YouTube could not be reached right now. Try again in a few minutes": YouTube did not respond. Wait a few minutes and try again.
Change the Channels You Track
The channel list is set when you connect, so you change it by connecting again:
- Add a new YouTube Public Data data source (Step 2) with the complete list of channels you want to track now.
- Remove the old YouTube Public Data data source (see the next section).
Connecting the exact same list of channels again updates your existing data source instead of creating a new one.
Power My Analytics refreshes your channels' details from YouTube regularly, so a renamed channel shows its new name. If a channel is deleted or hidden on YouTube, it is removed from your list. If your channel details cannot be refreshed from YouTube for 30 days, YouTube's policies require the stored channel list to be removed, and your data source asks you to reconnect. Reconnect with the same channels to restore it.
Remove Your YouTube Public Data Source from Power My Analytics
- In your Hub, select Sources from the menu.
- Locate your YouTube Public Data data source in the list.
- Open the three-dot Action menu and select Remove source, then click Confirm.
Removing the source stops Power My Analytics from tracking those channels. There is nothing to revoke in Google, because YouTube Public Data never signs in to your Google or YouTube account.
