Missing POS Location Name Data in Shopify
If you're seeing blank or missing data or "0" values for metrics when using the POS Location Name dimension in your Shopify reports, this article will help you resolve the issue. This problem occurs when your Shopify connection doesn't have the required permissions to access Point of Sale location data.
Issue
When using the field POS Location Name as a dimension in Shopify reports, metrics may show "0" values, missing data, or blank values.
Cause
The POS Location Name field requires a specific permission called the read_locations scope to display data in your reports. This scope is enabled by the View store data permission in Shopify. This means:
- Customers may see blank data or "0" values for metrics using POS Location Name as a dimension
- Your other metrics and data will display correctly; only metrics using the POS Location Name dimension are affected
Solution
To obtain POS Location Name data in your reports, you'll need to manually reconnect your Shopify data source and grant the additional permissions:
Step 1: Disconnect Your Shopify Data Source
- Go to your Power My Analytics Hub at hub.powermyanalytics.com
- Click on Sources in the left navigation panel and find your Shopify data source in the list.
- Click the three-dots Action menu next to your Shopify source.
- Select Remove source from the dropdown menu.
- Click Confirm to disconnect the data source.
Step 2: Reconnect Your Shopify Data Source
- Click the orange + Add new source button above the main sources table.
- Select Shopify from the data connector gallery.
- Follow the connection process to install the Power My Analytics app from the Shopify app store.
- When prompted, grant all requested permissions, including the read_locations scope (View store data permission).

- Complete the connection process. Your Shopify data source is now reconnected to your Power My Analytics hub.
Disconnecting and reconnecting your data source will not impact your existing reports. Your reports will continue to work normally during this process.
Step 3: Backfill Historical Data
After reconnecting, you'll need to manually backfill your historical data to obtain POS Location Name information for past orders:
- In your Hub, go to Sources and find your newly reconnected Shopify source.
- Click the three-dots Action menu next to your Shopify source and select Backfill data range
- Select the time period over which you need to obtain POS Location Names data. The backfilling process will begin.
