PayPal Data Connector User Guide
PayPal is a widely used payment processing platform, and integrating its data into your analytics workflow can provide valuable insights into your business performance. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up PayPal as a data source in Power My Analytics, enabling you to automate your data collection and create insightful reports.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- A PayPal Business account
- API credentials (API username, API password, and Signature) for your PayPal account
Adding PayPal as a Data Source
- Log in to your Power My Analytics hub.
- Navigate to Sources from the menu.
- Click + New Data Source.
- Select PayPal from the gallery.
- Enter your PayPal API username, API password, and Signature to authenticate.
Creating a Looker Studio Report
Follow these steps to create a Looker Studio report using your PayPal data:
- After adding PayPal as a data source, go to Reports > Looker Studio
- Select PayPal under Create Looker Studio Report (this will open the official Looker Studio application in a new window)
- Google Looker Studio Configuration:
- Step 1:
- Name your data source (e.g., "PayPal - Your Organization Name")
- Choose your Power My Analytics hub from the dropdown
- Optional: Leave "Use report template for new reports" checked to use the PMA demo template
- Click Next
- Step 2:
- User Account: Select your PayPal account (for real data) or "Sample Account" (for sample data)
- Click Next
- Step 3:
- Choose the currency symbol for your reports
- Click Connect (top right) to complete the data source configuration
- Step 4:
- Click Create Report (top right)
Key Reports and Fields
PayPal data in Power My Analytics offers a wide range of metrics and dimensions. Here are some popular metrics you can use in your reports:
- Performance Metrics: Transactions, Transaction Total, PayPal Fees, Order Quantity, Net After Fees, Transaction Quantity
- Transaction Metrics: Amount, Item Amount, Sales Tax, Shipping, PayPal Fees, Net After Fees

Limitations and Important Considerations
- Backfilling: PayPal data can be backfilled for up to 2 years. When you first connect your PayPal account, 13 months of historical data will be imported.
