Missing Sums on Facebook or Instagram Ads Campaign Reports

Missing Sums on Facebook or Instagram Ads Campaign Reports

Facebook's attribution reporting has undergone some changes that may affect your reports. This article will help you understand how to compensate for new challenges with their API.

This article will help you to resolve the following problem:

You may see zeroes or null values (dashes) in your Facebook Ads or Instagram Ads report.

Why has my report changed?

On April 26, 2021, Facebook updated their attribution capabilities to compensate for changes in Apple's iOS14.  Facebook users are now required to opt-in to tracking. Very few have opted in. Facebook is transitioning over to SKAdNetwork reporting, which tracks events and allows marketers to track attribution without the now-hidden device information.

Ads data that was gathered before April 26, 2021 can still be sorted by "on impression date" or "on conversion date" while data gathered after April 26, 2021 can only be sorted by "on conversion date."

Power My Analytics will always do as much as we can to help you to get the best reports out of your data. We are continuously updating our connectors to do just that.

Cause

  1. Facebook does not provide sums for ad campaigns for multiple attribution settings. For example, if you have one ad campaign set to 7 day click, 1 day view, and another with 1 day click, 1 day view, then Facebook will not be able to calculate those together.
  2. Specific settings are now required in order to accurately combine data generated before and after the change.
  3. Additionally, Results fields may no longer work.

Resolution

If it is necessary to have these sums, then you can align all of the attribution settings in your Facebook Ad Manager account. Every ad campaign will need to have the same attribution settings for the sums to populate.
You can use our sheets add-on solution to create conversion scorecards in Facebook or Instagram Ads.

Check your Facebook or Instagram Ads dashboard. If there is a zero or dash on your dashboard, we will show the same.

If there is a number on your Facebook or Instagram Ads dashboard, try these steps:

1. Change the attribution setting from AdSet to Account.

If you are using the Sheets add-on, go to Action Attribution Setting on the Sheets sidebar and select Account Attribution Setting.

2. If you are still not seeing numbers, select Yes (only iOS14.x and above) or No (before iOS14.x) on the connector configuration page.

3. If Purchases Conversion Value is not working, try replacing it with Omni Purchases Conversion Value.

4. If your numbers still do not align with what is shown on Facebook or Instagram Ads, send a ticket using the link below. Include:
  1. A screenshot from Facebook or Instagram Ads
  1. A screenshot from Looker Studio
  1. Edit level access to your Looker Studio report
  1. The page number where you see the inconsistency
