If your automatic renewal payment fails on its due date, but the same card works when you pay the invoice yourself, this article explains why that happens and how to set up a payment method that renews smoothly. In most cases there is nothing wrong with your card.
The Symptom
You may recognize this pattern:
- Automatic renewal is enabled, but the card on your profile is not charged on the due date.
- You receive a payment failure notice from Power My Analytics.
- When you pay the same invoice manually with the same card, the payment goes through without trouble.
- The next billing cycle, it happens again.
Note: A failed renewal attempt does not charge your account. Your money is safe; the charge simply did not complete.
Why an Automatic Renewal Can Fail When a Manual Payment Works
Some banks require an extra approval step at the moment of an online card payment: a one-time password (OTP) sent to your phone, or a 3-D Secure (3DS) confirmation in your banking app. When you pay an invoice yourself, you are present to complete that step, so the payment succeeds.
An automatic renewal is different: it is a scheduled charge that runs unattended, with nobody present to enter a code or approve the payment. If your bank asks for that approval, the scheduled charge cannot complete, and the renewal fails even though your card is active and in good standing.
This affects some regions more than others:
- Cards issued in India: Banks send a one-time password for online card payments to comply with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, so unattended renewal charges are commonly declined.
- Cards issued in Europe and the UK: 3-D Secure approvals are common under European payment regulations, and some banks apply them to renewal charges as well.
Your card is not the problem. Power My Analytics accepts cards that require an OTP or 3DS approval; the extra step just cannot be completed during an unattended charge. You do not need to replace your card, and you should never be told your card "cannot be used."
How to Pay an Open Invoice
The fastest way to settle an open invoice with a card that requires an OTP or 3DS approval is the payment link in your invoice email. That link opens a secure Zoho-hosted payment page that walks you through your bank's approval step.
- Open the invoice email from Power My Analytics (the subject line looks like "Invoice from Power My Analytics (Invoice#: INV-XXXXXX)").
- Click the payment link in the email, or open the attached invoice PDF and use the payment link inside it.
- On the secure payment page, review the invoice and enter your card details.
- Complete your bank's approval step (enter the one-time password or approve in your banking app).
- The page confirms the payment, and the invoice is marked paid. Your subscription status updates shortly afterward.
Note: If you try to pay inside your Hub and the page stays on "Paying your bill. Please wait a minute or two for this to complete" without finishing, use the invoice email's payment link instead. The invoice payment page handles bank approval steps that the in-Hub flow may not complete.
Set Up a Renewal That Completes Automatically
If your card requires an approval step, you have several good options for uninterrupted renewals:
- Switch to PayPal (recommended): PayPal completes its own authentication, so renewals process cleanly without a bank code. See Switch Billing from Credit Card to PayPal.
- Move to a yearly plan: With one payment per year, you can settle the invoice through the payment link in a couple of minutes, and you save 16% compared to monthly billing. See Upgrade to a Yearly Plan. Yearly plans can also be paid by bank wire transfer; see Pay via Bank Wire Transfer.
- Ask your bank: Some banks can register or approve a recurring charge from a specific merchant so it no longer requires a code each time. Ask your bank whether they support this for Power My Analytics charges.
If Payments Keep Failing
If a payment fails even on the invoice payment page, the cause is likely something other than an approval step:
- Verify your card number, CVC, and billing postal code, and confirm the correct card is selected. See Problem in Processing Payment.
- Contact your bank and ask for the exact reason the payment from Power My Analytics was declined; only your bank can see the specific reason.
- Still stuck? Submit a ticket with your Subscription ID and the invoice number, and we will be happy to dig in with you.
