How to Connect to Instagram Public Data

How to Connect to Instagram Public Data

Info
You connect Instagram Public Data by signing in with Facebook. Power My Analytics then uses your own Instagram Business or Creator account to look up public data about the accounts you want to track; those accounts don't need to do anything. This guide shows you how to get your Instagram account ready, how to add the data source, how to fix connection problems, and how to remove the source. For what the connector reports, see the Instagram Public Data Data Connector User Guide.
Notes
Instagram Public Data is an Alpha connector. It is newly released and available for early access, so fields, configuration options, and behavior may change as we build it out. If Instagram Public Data does not appear when you add a new source in your Hub, submit a ticket to request access.
Info
Reporting on your own Instagram account? Instagram Public Data tracks public statistics for other Business and Creator accounts, such as your competitors'. For reach, audience, and other insights on an account you own or manage, use our Instagram Insights connector instead. See the Instagram Insights Data Connector User Guide.

Requirements

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account of your own, linked to a Facebook Page you manage. This is the account Power My Analytics uses to run lookups.
  • The Facebook account that manages that Page, and its sign-in credentials.
  • The Instagram usernames of the accounts you want to track. They must be public Instagram Business or Creator accounts; personal and age-restricted accounts cannot be looked up.

Connect Instagram Public Data to Power My Analytics

Step 1: Get your Instagram account ready

  1. Make sure your Instagram account is a Business or Creator account. If it is a personal account, open the Instagram app, go to Settings > Account, and select Switch to professional account.
  2. Make sure your Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Page you manage. If it is not, follow Instagram's guide to connecting an Instagram professional account to a Facebook Page.
Notes
Signed in to more than one Facebook account? Facebook connects whichever account is signed in to your browser. To be sure you connect the account that manages the right Page, open a private or incognito browser window, sign in to that Facebook account, and connect from there.

Step 2: Add Instagram Public Data as a data source in your Hub

  1. In your Power My Analytics Hub, select Sources from the menu.
  2. Click + Add new source.
  3. Choose Instagram Public Data from the connector gallery. You can type "Instagram" in the search box to find it quickly; make sure you pick Instagram Public Data, not Instagram Insights.
  4. Sign in to your Facebook account.
  5. On the screen that asks which businesses Power My Analytics can access, select Opt in to all current and future Businesses (or include the business that owns your Page), then click Continue.
  6. On the screen that asks which Pages Power My Analytics can access, select Opt in to all current and future Pages (or include the Page linked to your Instagram account), then click Continue.
  7. On the screen that asks which Instagram accounts Power My Analytics can access, select Opt in to all current and future Instagram accounts (or include your Instagram account), then click Continue.
  8. Review the permissions, click Save, then click Got it.
Your Instagram Public Data data source then appears in Sources. It lists the Facebook Pages you manage that have a linked Instagram Business or Creator account; Pages without a linked Instagram account are not listed. During Alpha, Instagram Public Data reports are not available yet. When they are, you will choose which Page's Instagram account runs the lookups and which accounts to track; see the Instagram Public Data Data Connector User Guide for what to expect.

Troubleshooting Connection Problems

  • Your data source connects, but no accounts are found: The Facebook account you signed in with does not manage a Page with a linked Instagram Business or Creator account, or you did not include that Page and Instagram account in steps 5 to 7. Complete Step 1, then connect again and include them.
  • The Page you expected is missing: Check that its Instagram account is a Business or Creator account and is linked to the Page, and that you signed in with the Facebook account that manages it. Then connect again.
  • Authorization or session errors: Facebook may end your session after a password change or a security check. Connect again; see Facebook/Instagram Connector Authorization Error.
For other issues, see Basic Troubleshooting.

Remove Your Instagram Public Data Source from Power My Analytics

  1. In your Hub, select Sources from the menu.
  2. Locate your Instagram Public Data data source in the list.
  3. Open the three-dot Action menu and select Remove source, then click Confirm.
Removing the source stops Power My Analytics from using your Instagram account to look up the accounts you track.
