Semrush Projects Data Connector User Guide

Semrush Projects Data Connector User Guide

Info
Semrush Projects is where Semrush organizes the tools you run for a website, including Site Audit, which crawls your site and scores its technical SEO health. With the Power My Analytics Semrush Projects connector, you can bring your Site Audit results (Site Health, AI Search Score, issue counts, and crawl status for each Project) into your reports. This guide covers what you need before you connect, how to add Semrush Projects as a data source, how to build your first report, and where to find the available fields.
Notes
Semrush Projects is a Beta connector. It is available and supported now; while it is in Beta, some fields and behavior may still change as we continue to improve it. We will expand this guide as the connector develops.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
  • A Semrush Business plan with API units. Semrush includes API access only on its Business plan, and there is no free API tier.
  • Your Semrush API key from Subscription Info > API Units (API Units page). You will paste it into your Hub when you add the source. If you already connect Semrush Analytics, you can use the same key.
  • At least one Semrush Project with Site Audit set up and at least one completed audit.

Adding Semrush Projects as a Data Source

  1. In your Power My Analytics Hub, select Sources from the menu.
  2. Click + Add new source and choose Semrush Projects from the gallery. You can type "Semrush" in the search box to find it quickly.
  3. Enter your API Key and, optionally, a Name to help you identify the account, then click Connect.
  4. Select the Projects you want to report on. Only Projects with Site Audit set up are listed.
Each Project you select appears as one account under your Semrush Projects data source, labeled with the Project name and URL.
For step-by-step connection instructions, including where to find your API key, see How to Connect to Semrush Projects.

Creating a Data Studio Report

  1. In your Hub, go to Reports > Data Studio and click the orange + Create report button.
  2. In the Templates window, select Single sources, find Semrush Projects, and click Open in Data Studio.
  3. In Data Studio, click Authorize if you are prompted, then select your Power My Analytics Hub and the Semrush Projects account you connected.
  4. Under Projects, select the Projects you want to report on.
  5. Click Connect (top right), then click Create report.
To see what you can build, explore our Semrush Projects sample template, which uses sample data.

Key Reports and Fields

The Semrush Projects connector provides one table, Site Audit Info, with one row for each Project based on its most recent completed Site Audit. Here are the metrics available:
  • Scores: Site Health and AI Search Score, the headline scores from Semrush Site Audit.
  • Issues: Errors, Warnings, Notices, and Total Checks.
  • Pages: Pages Crawled, Pages Limit, Healthy, Broken, Blocked, Redirected, Have Issues, and Canonical.
  • Changes since the previous audit: Delta fields such as Errors Delta, Warnings Delta, Notices Delta, Pages Crawled Delta, Healthy Delta, and Broken Delta.
  • Audit settings: Crawl Subdomains, Respect Crawl Delay, User Agent Type, and Schedule Day.
To break down and group your data, use dimensions such as Name (your Project name), Project Domain, URL, Status, Last Audit Date, and Next Audit Date. To count your Projects, use Project ID with the Count Distinct aggregation.
For the complete list of available Semrush Projects fields, open the Semrush Projects Schema Explorer in your Hub.

Limitations and Important Considerations

  • Latest audit only: Your reports show the most recent completed audit for each Project. Earlier audits, including audits that ran before you connected, are not available, so there is no historical backfill. To see how a site is changing, use the Delta fields.
  • Site Audit required: Only Projects with Site Audit set up are available. A Project whose first audit has not finished shows blank Site Health and AI Search Score values until it does.
  • Totals and scores only: Individual issues, affected URLs, and page-level details are not included. For issue-by-issue detail, open the Project's Site Audit in Semrush.
  • Audit timing follows Semrush: Your data changes when Semrush completes a new audit, on the Project's audit schedule or when you rerun it. Power My Analytics picks up the new results with your next daily data sync. Check Last Audit Date to see when a Project was last audited.
  • Averaging scores: When a scorecard or chart covers more than one Project, set Site Health and AI Search Score to Average. Adding scores together across Projects produces a number that is not meaningful.
  • Semrush API units: Semrush charges 100 API units each time Power My Analytics retrieves a Project's Site Audit results, which happens once per Project with each daily data sync. Keep enough units in your Semrush account so your data stays current.
  • Beta connector: While Semrush Projects is in Beta, fields, configuration options, and behavior may change. If a field is renamed or removed, you may need to update the reports that use it.

Unavailable Data

The following Semrush data is not currently available through the Power My Analytics Semrush Projects connector:
  • Historical Site Audit results
  • Individual issues, issue types, and affected URLs
  • Page-level crawl details and markup (structured data) detections
  • Position Tracking (keyword rankings) and other Semrush Projects tools
Domain, keyword, and search visibility data is available through our Semrush Analytics connector; see the Semrush Analytics Data Connector User Guide.
If there is a Semrush Projects field or report you would like to see, please submit a ticket with a description or screenshot of what you need. Requests during Beta help us decide what to add next.

Troubleshooting

If your Semrush Projects data does not look the way you expect, start with Basic Troubleshooting. A few Semrush Projects patterns are worth checking first:
  • The connect window shows "invalid api key": Make sure you copied the plain API key from Subscription Info > API Units, not a personal access token (these start with semrtkn-pat-), and pasted it without extra spaces.
  • A Project is missing from the list: Confirm Site Audit is set up for that Project in Semrush. If you set it up after connecting, reconnect your source from Sources > Action > Reconnect source to refresh the Project list.
  • Site Health and AI Search Score are blank: The Project's first audit has not finished yet. The scores appear after the audit completes and your next data sync runs.
  • Your numbers have not changed: Check Last Audit Date. If Semrush has not run a new audit, review the Project's audit schedule or rerun the audit in Semrush.
  • A Site Health or AI Search Score scorecard shows more than 100: The scorecard is adding up several Projects. Change its aggregation to Average.
