How to Connect to Google Analytics 4

Info
Looking to bring your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data into a single, automated reporting workflow? This guide will walk you through connecting GA4 as a data source in Power My Analytics, so you can centralize your website and app analytics, create comprehensive reports, and make data-driven decisions about your traffic and engagement.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
  • A Google account with Viewer access (or higher) at the Property level for the GA4 property you want to connect
  • Permission to grant Power My Analytics access to your Google account during the OAuth flow

Step 1: Add Google Analytics 4 as a Data Source in Power My Analytics

  1. Log out of all Google accounts except the one you want to connect.
  2. Log in to your Power My Analytics hub at https://hub.powermyanalytics.com.
  3. Navigate to Sources from the main menu.
  4. Click + Add new source.
  5. Select Google Analytics 4 from the list of available sources.
  6. Sign in to your Google account when prompted.
  7. Grant Power My Analytics the required permission scopes: Edit Google Analytics management entities and View and Manage your Google Analytics Data.
Notes
Power My Analytics' connector will never edit, create, or delete anything in your Google Analytics 4 account. These permissions are required because Google does not offer a read-only option for the GA4 API.
Once connected, Google Analytics 4 will appear in your list of active data sources. Your GA4 data will automatically begin syncing to your Power My Analytics data warehouse, and you can then use it in Looker Studio reports, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, or export it to your preferred data destination.
Notes
Session vs. Default Channel Grouping: When reporting traffic acquisition in Looker Studio, use the Session Default Channel Grouping dimension to match the GA4 UI's traffic acquisition report. The plain Default Channel Grouping dimension uses event-based attribution and will produce different values.
Notes
Adding new custom fields: If you add custom dimensions or metrics to an existing GA4 property, reconnect the source in Looker Studio for the new fields to appear.
