Why Per-Video and Per-Post Metrics Can't Be Reported by Day (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)

If you have tried to pull per-video or per-post numbers broken down by date on YouTube Analytics, Facebook Insights, Instagram Insights, or TikTok Organic and found you can only get one total per piece of content, this article explains why and shows you two ways to build the daily view you need.

The short answer

On all four of these connectors, content-level metrics (per video, per post) arrive as lifetime totals: one cumulative number for each video or post. The only date you can place beside a piece of content is its publish date, not a reporting date. There is no built-in way to see a single post's views (or likes, or comments) split out day by day.

Daily series do exist, but at the account, page, or profile level: views, followers, engagement, and similar metrics, broken down by date. TikTok Organic states the rule most plainly in its own documentation: "All video data is lifetime only. All profile data is daily." The same pattern holds on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

Why this happens

The platforms return content-level insights as a running lifetime tally for each post or video, not as a per-day breakdown. That is a limitation of each platform's API, not of Power My Analytics. Because the value is a single cumulative figure, pairing it with a reporting date has no per-day data to draw on, so the metric can only be tied to the date the content was published.

Workaround 1: Build a daily series with Data Builder

You can approximate a daily view by capturing the lifetime totals once per day and stacking the results over time:
  1. Build your per-content report (the videos or posts you want to track, with their metrics).
  2. In Data Builder, add the report to a dataset and set it to run on a daily schedule.
  3. Each daily run captures that day's snapshot of the lifetime totals; stacked together, the rows show how each post's cumulative numbers grew day over day.
This gives you a per-post trend line built from daily snapshots, rather than a true platform-provided daily breakdown.

Workaround 2: Export to BigQuery or Google Sheets and build the series there

For longer history or reporting across several platforms at once, use the Data Exports Addon to send your data to a destination and build the daily series in that destination:
  1. Create your per-content report in Data Builder.
  2. Set up a scheduled export to BigQuery, Google Sheets, or another destination with the Data Exports Addon.
  3. Each scheduled run appends the current snapshot, so the destination accumulates a daily history you can chart or query however you like.
This is also the route to keep history beyond a connector's storage window. YouTube is the most important case: under YouTube's terms of service, Power My Analytics can store only the most recent 30 days of YouTube data, so exporting is the only way to keep a longer YouTube history.

Instagram tip: use Timestamp, not Date

Notes
On Instagram Insights, avoid placing the Date dimension next to a post-level metric. Because each metric is a lifetime total, using Date sums that value across every day in the range and inflates your counts. Use the Timestamp dimension instead to keep one accurate value per post.
